Tinged with audacity and irony, Pauline Rousseau's work questions the tenuous line between reality and fiction, between truth and fantasy. The creative process is transgressive, sometimes close to performance. The camera becomes a pretext to stage the artist's past and future lives in an autofictional manner.
Pauline Rousseau graduated from the École du Louvre and then from the École Nationale Supérieure de la photographie d'Arles in 2016. That year, she was awarded the International Center of Photography (New York) grant, the Carte Blanche of the PSG and was nominated for the Bourse du Talent de la BNF.
She has since participated in several artist residencies, including one at the Carpe Diem art center (Lisbon, 2014), in Zinder at the invitation of the CNRS (Niger, 2018) or in Martinique with the Médicis workshops (2020). Her work has been exhibited among others: at the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie (Arles), Agnès b gallery (Paris), Yvon Lambert foundation (Avignon), Alliance Française in Singapore, Paris-B gallery, or more recently this year at the Atrium in Fort-de-France (Martinique) with a solo exhibition "While their voices are rising".
She is resident at "Rouvrir le Monde" in Marseille in August 2022 with the support of the Drac PACA and a solo exhibition will be dedicated to her in May 2023 at the Archives nationales d'Outre-Mer in Aix-en-Provence on her project "Zinder 1900-2020" in partnership with the CNRS and the BNF.
