Jean-Michel Othoniel

Miroir

Blown glass and silver, painted on a wooden frame
82 x 64 x 4 cm
99th Edition

Born in 1964 in Saint-Étienne, Jean-Michel Othoniel is a French artist of the moment. Working first with materials like sulfur and wax (work exhibited at the Documenta IX de Cassel in 1992), Jean-Michel Othoniel is known for his glass Murano sculptures that play with light and space. One well-known example is Le Kiosque des Noctambules, which is installed in the Paris subway stop Palais-Royal. He decided to disrupt a new reading of the space by spectators and the body of work playing with the illusory potential of the glass.
